Bridge Report Volume 2, Issue 1
January 16, 2000
We are now entering the year 2000, and we wish all Bridge Players a Happy New Year.
We are also presently entering our second year of publishing our Bridge Report for gay
Bridge Players around the world. In this coming year we would like to keep you aware of
future gay bridge events, new and established gay bridge Web sites, gay Bridge Clubs located
around the world, new bridge publications, and remind you that we are still hoping that
Bridge will be included as a Sport in the Gay Games 2002.
First of all, we would like to remind everyone that Jerry Keeran, as part of
the Tampa Bay Team in Florida, is putting the final touches on the Second Annual
North American Lambda Bridge Tournament taking place in St. Petersburg, Florida,
which begins February 11 and ends on February 13, 2000. Remember that this is an
ACBL Sanctioned Event and Sectional Rated. For any and all information, please
contact Jerry Keeran personally at: jkeeran@cftnet.com. Jerry is the good guy working
for you and your pleasure.
Our mutual friends in Dallas, Texas, Morgan and Jim,
are continuing their success with OneList, which is your
Bulletin Board for posting any and all announcements,
letting other gay Bridge Players know where you will be,
whether you are looking for a bridge partner, finding out if
there is a gay bridge club located in the city you are visiting,
etc. A wonderful medium for keeping in contact and connecting with your fellow gay
bridge players. The address, if you have not yet signed up, is:
http://www.onelist.com/community/gaybridge.
In the short while they have started
serving the gay community, they now count 50 plus permanent members.
Stop by, sign up, it is free, and the information is delivered directly to your email box.
There are several new bridge items on the market and we would like to
recommend them to every bridge player. We have selected several, which are
listed below. Bridge is a learning Sport, and a Bridge Player never stops learning.
That is what keeps us young.
1. More Points Schmoints by Marty Bergen. You can call the telephone number
1-800-386-7432 to order the book and maybe the author will personally
answer the telephone, or you can email your request to: mbergen@mindspring.com.
Marty will autograph your copy upon request.
2. Play Bridge With Larry Cohen CD, the 1999 Life Master Pairs, Day 1,
which you can order directly from his Web site, which is located at:
http://larryco.com/.
3. Eddie Kantar Teaches Modern Bridge Defense, and the sequel,
Eddie Kantar Teaches Advanced Bridge Defense, which you can order at:
http://www.iglou.com/baronbarclay/books/BKAUTHK.html.
With every Bridge Report we like to feature one outstanding Bridge Web site, which is gay-related
and gay-oriented. This month we would like to feature a Web site which is in Auckland, New Zealand.
There are many bridge players in New Zealand and Australia, and we would like to stretch our hands across
the seas and give our greetings to a group which has served the gay bridge
community for many years.
We are referring to the Auckland Gay Bridge Group, which is maintained by Mark
Hangartner and Adrian. You can visit their Web site at:
http://nz.com/NZ/Queer/AGBG/ or email them at:
m.hangartner@auckland.ac.nz.
If you are ever in New Zealand, they are definitely friendly to new players
and welcome all visitors to their town. Auckland is a very beautiful city, and
once the construction dust settles, it will be even more beautiful.
Mark and Adrian, and countless others in New Zealand and Australia,
are contributing their efforts to have the Sport of Bridge reinstated in
the Gay Games 2002. We can show our support by emailing them and hopefully
our support will sustain these efforts which they are doing on our behalf.
Drop them a few lines to say hello, and let them know that we recognize their
efforts, and thank them for their efforts. A little thank you goes a long way.
Since we are on the subject, it might be prudent to begin announcing our
wish to have the Sport of Bridge included in the Gay Games 2002 to those in
charge. If you have a moment, please drop a line stating that you would
care to have bridge reinstated in the Gay Games 2002 to the following email
address, which belongs to one of the Board Members of the Gay Federation. The name
is Thomas J. Wilson and his email address is: ThomasJWilson@compuserve.com.
Even a short email with the following content would suffice: We would like
to see the Sport of Bridge reinstated in the Gay Games 2002.
Our Bridge Report for February, 2000, may be a little late in arriving,
since we shall be on the East Coast. However, we shall attempt our best
to keep you informed about the gay bridge happenings. Thanks to all
of you and your help, over 300 gay bridge players around the world
are receiving this Bridge Report. Any and all contributions are welcome.
